I purchase plug in module and full price BMWhat app a couple of weeks ago
It operates on iphone 5 via wifi,
No need to buy Andriod or cables etc afaik
Just plug it into the port and select the device in wifi settings on your phone
Open the app and select your vehicle model and hit connect
Simple

Oh if you have a JB4 be sure to set it to map 0
JB4s and BMWhat dont play nice together

I eventually got an HTC plus one off a mate, but looking on eBay these are quite cheap (Some are not, but i needn't tell you about how to shop on eBay

Really any Android with a decent android OS of 4.2 or above. After all you an't gonna use it for anything but this app? (Or at least i don't! )

I've done some coding with it using a wireless OBD adapter. Agreed that wire is safer but so far no problems at all using a wireless adapter (wifi not Bluetooth)

I'm interested to know coding you can do on an Android that you can't do with an iPhone. I have a 5s and their OBD Wifi adapter and have coded everything I wanted to change, including registering a new battery.

Can I ask the reason in registering a new battery?

You won't be able to code, as the Pre-07 refresh cars do not support coding over a wireless protocol. Hence why I'm considering an android device instead.

I've coded a late 2007 (57) plate pre-LCI car with no problems.

Yes, after the 07 refresh. The very early cars could not.

I have a galaxy S5, but bought a cheap tablet (£50) off eBay specifically to use with this app.

I got one of these and it runs it just fine, and having a larger screen is definitely easier.

So you can use the full features of the app (incl coding and parameter monitoring) on an iphone over wifi? I thought some features were limited over wifi.

The charging system reacts differently to a new battery.
As the old battery gets tired, the car charges it differently.
A new battery won't need such an aggressive charging regime.

It also charges at different rates depending on the capacity of the battery.

The question is - does it make any difference?
Maybe not. A lot of people have just changed batteries with no ill effects - or maybe those effects don't get seen until after they have sold the car.
Some have had ridiculously short battery life after not coding.

Up to you.

I changed my E60 battery without coding, and it lasted fine - although I did sell the car a year later

Just me, but safe is better!

Good advice!

The car will sometimes complain if the battery isn't coded.
