Wheel repair in Sydney
Anyone know much about repairing the paint on our wheels?
When I had new tyres fitted, the "monkey" that fitted them has messed up the paint on 3 of the wheels. In reality, it just "crushed" the paint, so now you can see the undercoat. I did point it out to the tyre place, and after some resistence, they acepted responsibility, and offered to get it fixed. However, that'd involve 3 trips (and it's not close). And I'm sure their fix would be done with price as the sole criteria. Quality wouldn't come into it. I know places like AlloyPro in Artarmon do a great job, and they strip the tyre off, and refinish the entire wheel, including rebaking it. But that's $320/wheel. Is there a way to get somone to either touch it up, or "blow in" the colour, and get a decent quality result? Acknowledging that it probably won't be as good as a "full" job, like AlloyPro. And if so, does anyone know someone that does it well in Sydney, for a reasonable price. Tia. |

I've heard good things about this place:
http://www.mobilealloywheelrepairs.com.au/ His charge was $140/wheel for mine. Good thing is he can do the job on the car without taking the wheels off, and is mobile. Dunno what he does, but the images he shows are pretty magical!! |

Not sure if you're still looking but I had my 4 wheels painted at a place called Custom Wheels in Lansvale. Looks heaps dodgy cos he has his workshop in the garage of his house but it cost me $100 per wheel to strip and paint.
I had 1 wheel welded because a rock punched a hole right through my alloy, all 4 wheels repaired for buckling and the 4 wheels painted all for $700. They did a good job too. Quite happy with the quality.

You will be impressed, most BMW wheels will require clear coat so they will be very glossy |

I had a satin black done so there was no clearcoat over the top. I thought it was powder coated but who knows. Maybe he sent it somewhere else to do it if he couldn't do it where he is but either way, it's a good finish.

Depending on what you get done and how much you get done at once. I did all 4 wheels and he charged me only $100 per wheel to paint them satin black. I went to get 2 wheels repainted the other day and it cost me $125 per wheel but that was including R&R'ing the tyre and rebalancing etc.

He said.
50 to weld any crack or split and then 125 to paint wheels BUT 220 to paint hyper silver. I heard his cheap but he is too busy till nekwik so maybe his just inflating the price cause his not bothered idk Magman said 80 for welds 85-145to paint wheels 165 for hyper silver The wheels in question to repair are VMR VB3 19" i wanted to do all 4 but At this rate im not sure lol |

Yep that sounds about right. I can't say I know about the hyper silver cost but I guess there's probably more work involved.
If you have any cracks, make sure you get any buckles in the wheel straightened out. If you don't it'll just re-crack. And if you're unlucky then they'll just keep recracking over and over like mine did. Had to get a new set of wheels. If you give him a full set maybe you can negotiate a better rate. Like $100 per wheel. He gave me a significant discount when I gave him my set of 261Ms to paint as well as unbuckle them. I think it costs $80 to unbuckle a wheel and all 4 had slight to moderate buckling. I paid $700 to paint and straighten the whole set. This is going back maybe 5 years ago though.

Ah interesting. Thanks for the buckle tip. Another thing to consider and another cost. Starting to really put me off now. And yeah itd be tough to compare 700 from 5 years ago. But 700 anyway thanks for all the info ill letchu know where the story ends when i decide. |

Yeah that sounds about right for a set and in line with what I paid the first time I went there.
