Manual Transmission Fluid for 06 - 330i (yes I've searched)
I know this topic has come up a million times, and been discussed, but I guess I'm looking for a general consensus as to what is safe / reliable for my 6sp manual 330i. I've seen the following listed:
- Royal Purple Syncromax (sorry, poll says Syncromesh) - Seems like an easy choice, but I'm nervous about purple fluids... seems like a gimmick. - Redline D4 ATF - Seems to be the most common choice, but some are saying (including Red Line's article) D6 ATF should be used for cars that specify MTF-LT3 (which I assume mine does) - Redline D6 ATF, some say this is needed only for the XI models... but then Redline seems to specify it here - http://www.redlineoil.com/news_article.aspx?id=13 Redline says D4 for late model cars EXCEPT the XI, but then says D6 for MTF-LT3 cars. - Redline MTL mixed with some other Redline gear oils... blend your own. Not sure how I feel about mixing my own oils... Anyway, I know it's been covered a ton, but if you could just give me a quick poll of what you use / how many miles you've put on it and if you'd recommend it or not, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks again, Last edited by Brian_TII; 08-27-2010 at 05:00 AM.. |

I used RP Sychromax and the shifts are now much smoother.

I used redline D6 in mine, just changed it a few weeks ago and feels a lil smother. But when i drained my OEM fluid that stuff was BLACK as dirt! i believe the D4 was replaced by the D6 as a newer version, not sure tho i forget

I emailed Red Line who suggested D6 ATF for my car. I think I'm going to go ahead and go with that... worst case I guess I just change it out with D4 or RP Syncromax if I hate it. I've been happy with Red Line products in my RX-7 so I think I'll give them another shot. No warranty here, and I put ~25k miles a year on my car, just want to maintain what I've got and maybe smooth out the 1 - 2 shift a bit.
Thanks again everyone. |
