Tim Yoyo mode
Hey guys, I was driving my 128i tonight, without any of the traction controls off, I believe this is called the "tim yoyo mode" and i decided to whip around a corner and see how much power the car really has when holding nothing back and wow! I quickly lost control and my right front right tire hit the curb. No damage was done to the tire. Luckily I didn't hold the drift. It also did not help that the conditions were a little wet out. Anyways the whole point of this thread was i was just wondering if anyone drives their car regularly without the traction control. If the 128i does this, I can only imagine what the 135 would do.

In the 135i you can have the rear step out a little before traction control kicks in. Actually you can still lose it with traction on; it can't save everything.

I personally would not try tim yoyo in the rain especially if you have the original tires which are miserable in the rain.

I only put it in tim yoyo and use the steptronic when I feel like hot-dogging a little.
I can't see any reason to turn it off on my usual commute/errand trips. In fact, as far as day to day driving goes I rather like the DSC on. |

yoyo mode in the snow for driftastic fun on empty streets. just remember to turn nannies back on when there's traffic around. this car has waay too much torque to disrepect it. sneeze while driving in the snow in yoyo mode and you could be pulling unintentional 180s.

in a 335i loaner i tried the car with the trac control completely off. big mistake....unless you're rich and can afford new tires every 2 weeks
i always have mine ON especially after the experience in the loaner....dang the car is fast and i don't mind a little electronic assistance from the BMW brain.

Every day.
I drive very conservatively in the rain; when it is dry I push it where it is safe to know where the limits are. Of course I might leave it on through the mountains in this cross country voyage about to happen..... |

I've messed around with it quite a bit, and I've found that this car can get away pretty quickly.
I think a combination of the short wheelbase and the abrupt power delivery as the turbos spool up puts it past the point of no return a little faster than most RWD cars I've own. |

All of the torque is there almost immediately which means a lighter touch is needed.
I can remember having to go WOT mid-corner on my heavily modded turbo Mustang (back before the earth had cooled) just to get enough pressure up to exit the corner well. And don't ask about spooling up a Saab Viggen mid-corner. The gal in the oncoming lane had this look on her face :eyebulge: when that Viggen was torque steering its way past her. ; -) |

People used to joke about old 911 Turbos all having a busted right front. You'd stab the throttle to make a pass, check your blind spot, and as you did the turbo would spool up and you'd run into the car you were trying to pass. |

Oh yeah I've scared myself a couple times with the DTC completely off. Not having a mechanical limited slip doesn't help much either and can make the handling even less predictable in wet conditions. A RWD car with decent power can nip you in the butt if you switch traction "off" and teenager mode "on"
