Mr12volt - wjat happens when you get a call while listening to radio?

Suppose I'm on a source that's not CD changer, like listening to my car's radio, and the phone rings. Does it automatically switch sources to mr12volt so I can answer it? Is the TCU or Combox no longer being used with mr12volt for calls, or is it basically whatever you answer on is what works?

I have it on my E90 LCI. I don't have iDrive but I can't imagine that would make any difference. Phone calls are done through the headunit not Mr12Volt. Only music streaming is handled by it.

When I get a call, the radio switches to that automatically and pauses whatever music was playing.
Once the call ends, it switches back to the music and resumes. However, sometimes it doesn't resume and I end up having to turn off the radio and back on since there is no pause/resume button.

I would say I'm 90% happy with it. When I'm listening to Google Maps direction, there is about .5 of a second delay for some reason on the initially spoken direction.

So, `in five hundred meters turn left` becomes `ive hundred meters turn left`
However, if I had music already playing; then this issue doesn't happen. No idea why.

Sometime the music just seem to pause/stop for no apparent reason. And I would have to turn off the radio and turn it back on to resume it. I haven't managed to debug if this is something on my phone or it's a Mr12Volt issue.

You have your choice of using the cars original system or Mr12volt on the original box(for phone) from Mr12volt via the dip switches on the box.
I used the Mr 12 volt and the mr 12 volt microphone on mine as the TCU is kaput. The instructions are terrible on that box but I just use the steering wheel button to answer and hang up. I know it will store and display number I have never bothered to figure out how to fully use the telephone function . I wish the had included better instructions . They didn't even say how to switch between sources which turns out to be a double tap on the power button and the original box. The usb and bluetooth music have been worth it though .

You should call or text them to get better instructions and post if they reply .

For me I decided to only use the OEM Bluetooth for calls with my Mr12volt box, this way no matter what source I'm on it'll still work. Now I appreciate if you are using nav on the Mr12volt source then it will switch back to the OEM calls screen, thus stopping you from seeing or hearing nav instructions, but for me this isn't really a problem as it's a very rare event to have someone call me if I was to be using the nav anyway.
If you was listening to the radio and a call came in though (using Mr12volt for calls) then a quick press of the CD(MEDIA) button would change it over. Although I'm not sure if it would do it automatically by pressing the steering wheel phone button.

On another point, I do have installation and setup videos on my YouTube channel for this and other systems, all be it for the E89 Z4, but it is cross platform compatible

Another mr12volt question so I figured I'd just add it here.... If I'm using the device exclusively for infotainment/phone, there's no real reason to upgrade the CCC controller to a CIC controller, correct? The reason I ask is because I was given a CIC controller and console trim piece with the display and head unit but the CIC controller isn't working. It seems that if I'm using mr12volt for everything the additional buttons don't really buy me any new functionality over the CCC controller. Is that correct? Really loving the mr12volt btw!

The newer version of the idrive is hard drive based rather than DVD based.

See wiki leaks BMW idrive for the whole evolution description.

I have been using the original M-ASK MR12Volt for almost three years now. I have a 2007 e91 without native Bluetooth or CIC/CCC. It is configured so that it pairs directly to my phone. I use the mic connection on the MR12Volt for the mic. With the phone/Android version when I acquired it, all the functionality of Bluetooth showed on my radio (Std Professional Radio) two versions of android later, this disappeared as phones went to Bluetooth 5. MR12Volt original is/was Bluetooth 3.0. Although phone book and phone history has disappeared, normal call functionality and last number dialed still work. I can answer a call from the steering wheel controls and hang up from the steering wheel controls.

Since Bluetooth is digital and Mr12Volt outputs its audio signal onto the MOST bus, audio quality is a function of the D/A in the radio as it is the link (analog) to the std amplifier.

MR12Volt is unique among interfaces as it mutes the radio automatically when it appears to detects audio on Bluetooth, and getsdid you set the priority input to the radio MOST D/A conversion and output to the amplifier.

Been enjoying the mr12volt for 3+ months - originally I had phone calls connected through my car and then I switched to connect through mr12volt. Now I'd like to switch back to car, and I've noticed that my phone (android) is having trouble connecting to both reliably at the same time, and even if it shows that it's connected for calls on the phone, it doesn't trigger android auto or show that it's connected on mr12volt. I thought perhaps it was the beta Android Auto software that I've been using but I removed that and still having the same issue. When I set mr12volt to handle both calls and audio, everything works fine. Anyone else noticing this wierd issue?

I don't have iDrive, so I can't comment on Android Auto. The car handles phone calls and mr12volt handles music.

I do notice sometimes that after a call ends, the music doesn't resume. So I have to turn off the radio/music and turn it back on. And that triggers the music playback again.

When you switched back to teh car answering the phone did you set the Mr12Volt jumpers back so Mr12Volt does not answer phone calls? If not then you phone is confused because both devices are set to answer a call and the phone does not know who to talk through

I set my phone's bluetooth for the car to calls and the mr12volt to audio - at least on my mr12volt, the dip switches are just for resolution. But in checking the manual right now it looks like I can set both to accept calls and the car will get preference over the mmi, so I'll try that as it seems that I lose the mr12volt connectivity when I don't have it set to both calls and audio

Interesting update - because of my above issues of needing both calls and audio enabled for mr12v to maintain a connection, I now have audio and calls enabled on the mr12v AND calls enabled on my car, and I removed the phone permissions on Android Auto so now I get to use the car's bluetooth for calls, and surprisingly it stays on the mr12v screen so nav continues to work during calls. Going back to the car's OEM idrive confirmed that calls are going through the car

I wired my Mr12Volt in a way that every time I ‘wake’ the my iPhone connects to the car via Bluetooth.
This is driving me crazy when trying to listen to a podcast when working on the car.
As soon as I open a door my bluetooth portable speaker looses the connection to Mr12Volt.
I guess i need tap a different wire so Mr12Volt powers on with ignition on, rather than on ‘wake up’
