Please help tonight - first track day: engine malfunction alert
I just had my first track day ever in my '08 135. It was awesome and I learned a ton about my car.
I had no problems on the track, but after leaving the track and driving home, my car displayed an Engine Malfunction alert that says the engine is now operating under reduced output. The turbos do not operate when it's in this mode. The problem seems to occur when I rev up pretty high placing the engine under load. For example going up a hill in third gear with 3/4-full throttle. Turning the car off and on clears the alert and the turbos operate again as usual - but I've reproduced the problem several times. Has anyone seen a similar problem? Any ideas what the cause could be? I'm completely bummed at the possibility of missing my second track day tomorrow - but also want to be safe. Would appreciate any experience or advice... |

BTW - I also posted something about this in the general forum and got responses there, so if you are going to add to this issue please use my post in the general forum. Thanks!

I am sure you aren't the first person this has happened to. The ECU probably just went into limp mode to protect the motor unless something is actually wrong with the car. Having the code would be helpful in solving the problem.

What was the outside temperature? Did you get on it when the gas gauge is flashing the reserve symbol? Is your car bone stock?
