Painting DTC & Shifter Trim
Contemplating painting my DTC shifter and shifter trim.
Any tips or painting the DTC area? I know how to get the shifter trim removed by removing part of the dash. But not to sure about the DTC. Any help? |

Benefit of platidip is that when you are ready to paint it permanently, you just peel it off. That said, I feel like a nice even coat of platidip might be more durable on a part like that then paint would be.

Remove dash to remove shifter pieces? Shifter pieces are the first thing to come off when dash needs to come out They easily pop off, I plasti-dipped mine as well. Much better!

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I was looking at wrapping the silver trim on my DCT shifter with the carbon fiber 3M Di-Noc film. I figured it would be a nice little accent. I can't seem to find a DIY anywhere on how to remove that trim, can you point me in the right direction?

FWIW, to those painting interior bits, use water based (aka acrylic) paint. Laquer and oil based paints tend to stink for a long period of time while fully curing. Water based (sometimes marketed as interior spray paint) is low/no VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint and will be much better suited to your health long term. Plus it doesn't smell lol.

There is, you pry up the trim on gear selector shift knob, very carefully. It is pressed onto brass rivets that have a gear grip on 4 or five points around the shifter and in the middle areas. The black smoked section and the silver section will come off exposing the backlit circuit board and the park button will remain in place. Clean the seam around the silver trim where it meets the leather and use a guitar pick and gradually pull straight up around the perimeter until it releases. Same with the base trim, it is pressed in place. First pull the leather gear shift away from selector shifter and you can easily pull the base away.
