Aus 2005 BMW 120i e87
Hello I recently purchased this beauty and loving it! its a 2005 prefacelift BMW e87 120i steptronic bought from a mature woman at good price . its got leather interior and sunroof
My previous ride was a toyota e12 corolla but lost her to a hail storm this year but this new ride is so much better is every way (except fuel consumption lol) only mod i've done is replace the front amber signal bulbs to osram diadems that i took from the corolla. future plans for mods are small at the moment. (just cosmetic) -anthracite vinyl overlay on roundels DONE -e90 shark fin antenna cover DONE -white LED license lights DONE -white LED front parker lights FAIL -retrofit facelift taillights HIGH version (LED) DONE -retrofit footwell lights DONE -retrofit door puddle lights -spare wheel + jack kit DONE feel free to advise on the above mods as this is my first european car and things work differently to the japanese all will be done on a very tight budget... sticking to team white sorry for the poor quality photos and dirty car will get it sorted asap! Congratulations on your purchase!
You'll be pleasantly happy with it, grows on you more and more. With all the LED upgrades: you're going to be out of luck with LED tail lights. Apparently it's a bit of a pain in the a-hole to make it work unless you have factory xenons. LED parking lights you'll have the warning coming up on your display every time which happens to me as well. You can try www.carwear.com.au for parts to fix that problem; i haven't had the time to get around to it. Otherwise enjoy your new ride! |

thanks for the heads up on the leds. i'll order some leds compatible with the canbus. as for the oem led taillights. apparently the led (high version) can be installed to the standard prefacelift like normal (just rearrange the wires but the leds don't work) and First_Matt_White activated the LEDs by tapping into the license plate lighting. here is the translated diy from the german forum: http://translate.google.com/translat...ml&sl=de&tl=en http://www.1erforum.de/tuning/einbau...non-20812.html Last edited by blingers; 06-18-2010 at 08:22 AM.. |

a day shot of the 1er with dirty wheels:
bought a cheap e90 style fin antenna on ebay. its bigger than expected but still looks alright. just need to cut a hole at the base and colourcode it next is led license plate lamps and vinyl overlay for the bmw badges |

received the 24 led license plate lights today:
a word of warning, these aftermarket lamps stick out more than the oem ones so this can be an issue if you're using thick license plate holders: very white light, not as blue as in the photos: colour difference between stock halogen parker lights and led license lights: Last edited by blingers; 07-24-2010 at 08:36 PM.. |

Hey,
nice Car But why you dont install the LCI LED Plate Lights? The are cheaper I would change to M Front and Back... it makes the Cars looks sporty and newer... and some Blackline Backlights. greets to "down under" Marco

Thanks for the suggestion comar. I agree the car looks outdated now but i don't really want to go that far into changing it. I think installing the facelift taillights alone updates the look enough.
As disco mentioned, prices for genuine parts are ridiculous. I asked for the dash compartment retrofit kit which I read can be had for USD80-100 in the US, got quoted AUD280. Might get a quote on the lci led plate lights. They would fit with my license plate holder better. |

a little setback for my 1er... last night my brother broke one of the teeth that holds the key in the ignition lock (left side)
got a quote from the dealer: ignition lock part $244 labour 1-2hrs at $170/hr most likely 1hr (better than expected lol toyota dealers charge around the same rate) I'm gonna try to source the part cheaper elsewhere and install it myself but there is quite a lot of trim to remove (centre console, driver footwell). does anyone have the instructions to removing those trims? pm me if you like the ignition lock part has been changed with the time of facelift so maybe its a different design? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=66&fg=05&hl=8 btw i also got a dealer quote on the footwell lamps to retrofit. they are $34 each... thanks! i saw your ride in car of the month and she's a beauty!! team white FTW!
i realised the led license are probably too bright so i covered 75% of the lens with black tape. they are still quite bright though |

bear with me for being a tight-arse... :P i diyed a chrome grill by using some mirror sheet adhesive left over from my corolla days. just cut strips and stuck them on the grill slats to look like an oem chrome grill. pretty happy with the elegant look (until it starts peeling off and look cheap ). if it was a m sport i would've done the opposite, black grill and black mirror caps.
half done: both done: will edit this with some long distance shots to really appreciate the look. Last edited by blingers; 08-22-2010 at 05:16 AM.. |

Looking nice!
Im just about to order some black badging decals for my red 120i M sport. Where did you purchase yours from? The only kit I have seen so far is the ones from Bimmian. I just want to make sure the kit I get fits the large roundell on the hatch lid! |
