European 1Addicts - summer Alpine tour (planning)
Ok guys, so Artemis and I(and a few other ie: the Usual Suspects from past European 1Addicts trips) have been talking about where and when to go on this years Alpine Tour. So far it looks like the weekend of Sept 2nd thru 4th is leading the votes. Really any weekend in August thru late September would probably work. As for "where" some of us were thinking of the French Alps... but we have heard some horror stories of the French policing of "some" roads. Also... that would be a far tour to do. 1K kms for most of us just to get to the starting area - and then head down to the Southern coast of France and Monaco. The other area we have been mulling over is the Sella Ronda: Italian Dolomites. IF we go with this area again, I was thinking of maybe heading further Eastern and maybe Southern. Sella 3.0 ? So... I am just making this thread to discuss what, where and when - our fellow European 1Addicts think we shall go? I'd like to find a hotel that is reasonable ~100 euros per night. And a hotel that is safe for all of our cars. This year's trip is shaping up to be MEGA fun. We should have a fairly large bunch of 1er's and 2er's - along with a handful of M2's and M3's/M4's. I'm also hoping we can do a little bit more on the social side of things, rather than our normal hardcore driving every day. So... Let's hear what YOU think! Dackel PS: Here is a link to last year's trip... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1152114 NOTE: Subscribe to this thread to remain informed about this year's tour.

I would go for a Sella 3.0 tour since the French alps are a bit too far to go for my taste.
I would also like it we spend some (cultural) time in a museum (or something similar) with the group

Big thx to Dackel and Artemis for doing the planning work, again Let me know if I can do something!
Personally - I'd vote for (southern) dolomites area again, too! France would be really great but I think getting there is too far (for me) And I agree with Dackel and Chris that a bit more socialising would be nice, too. btw I have some little appetizers from last years: Sella 1.0 Sella 1.0 Driving Videos Sella 2.0 Driving Report Sella 2.0 Sella 2.0 Driving Videos

Amazing news Dackelone and Artemis! Many thanks for putting effort and energy to arrange this!
What can I say! This is what we all been waiting for. Regardless the road we're going to end up is an honor to join you guys and I'm pretty sure that would be a fantastic journey. Personally same as markymark666 - I'd vote for (southern) dolomites area again, too! - I might extend my journey there but this will be something to check offline and eventually extend to some of the other guys that will join for the event. Later on this thread I would like to open and discuss some other matters essentially towards the cars .. we'll get there surely .. I'm looking 4ward to meet you guys and have good times with you all

Dolomites for the win !
If we want to venture more East this year, we might consider driving the Grossglockner High Alpine Road too (http://www.grossglockner.at/en/hochalpenstrasse/) - so that you can also tick that box on your bucket list - and access the Dolomites from the East. Then a hotel in the Cortina d'Ampezzo area would be the right place to get a good rest on Friday evening, getting ready for the Saturday trip in the heart of the Dolomites (Sella whereabouts).

Needless to say that "The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is more than just a road." Quote:

Artemis I'm not so sure about driving the Grossglockner Pass. I'd like to keep our weekend kind of simple and stay in new part of the Sella region.
I also would like set places where we could meet up. Because we will need to break up into small groups. I think having small groups of four or five cars - would be best. Then we could meet up at pre-planned areas(rest stops). This would be also good in case some want to cruise leisurely instead of at semi warp speeds.

Outstanding. Thanks for the link in the other thread. I'll be watching this. I need to do a bit more research but I'll be making a trip of my own hitting Stelvio and a couple other things come May or June. I'm dying for a good drive and some camping.

Don't know if you've seen this, but passes in the Dolomites will be closed during the day starting with the Sella Pass this summer (July/August) and all/most passes from next summer.

Guys at the moment the poll for this year edition is hitting September as dates chosen for the event itself so we shall be fine regardless the roads we drive - am I right?
Dackelone will there be any deadline to set up on which weekend we'll be heading the Alps or you're just waiting to get as more participants you can? / Is it allowed to pass the word with some bimmer owners I know or this is a closed group? Best,
