BMW 1M / M1 Feedback.
OK since I am now on assignment , please leave your questions you want to ask.
I should have informed Guido earlier to the non-appearance of the M1 earlier since the focus was on the 5er which is why the car was kept for Geneva. In a market especially when your products have felt the brunt of the economic climate the focus was on cars that were coming to the market. Cars that will be sold to customers not something you have to wait for. At Geneva nearly every manufacturer who had a new car or even a concept stuck to the current trend of either a Concept using full Hybrid or Mild hybrid drivetrains. As for the M1? well I am not going to mention this car just let the facts talk for themselves and the evidence you have seen. The first announcement was in the Autocar magazine (Which is UK) I believe, not me. I carried on when that news had went public. I did not break that story. Fine, let's do a short summary on what we've got that speaks for an M1 so far and what we've got that speaks against it: Taken from South. Dr Kay Segler, CEO of BMW ///M, told German Auto Motor und Sport in November 2009: "Currently, we concentrate on evaluating the feasibility to produce an M variant based on the current generation 1 series. [...] Usually, the development for such a car needs 3 years. But, we're planning to communicate the first details on the car around Christmas 2010 with its market launch scheduled for Spring 2011". Ok just post a question and I will do my best to answer. Whilst I am on location. Feel free to let rip because I will answer. |

Scott, we appreciate the information that you have given us. Just want to make that clear.
I think the prevailing theme is that the fact that the M1 is not in Geneva means that the car is really not a "go" so to speak....or that is will take much longer than originally anticipated to get it to market. Can you comment? Also--we have seen subtle hints that the BMW board drove the car and wanted more changes--aka more power, If this is true, what other changes and how much more power? Are there any details in regard to price? Also, when can we expect to see the M1? Thanks....

Is BMW going to present/market the M1 as a back-to-basics driving enthusiast's "Ultimate Driving Machine"?
With the introduction of the X5M and X6M, and the growing weight of the M3, aren't the M engineers itching to produce something more raw, of which the M1 would be a perfect candidate? This is what I want to see from BMW. I want to see that they still embrace the enthusiasts, not just mass-market cars with mass-market sales.

Thanks for the info.
Is there a M1 convertible (E88) version in the works? If so how far behind the coupe will it be? Will the coupe have a manual transmission option? If yes will it launch at same time as M-DCT? Or will they be a delay? Rough UK price? In between 135i and M3? Cheers, Mark. |

Wow! 101 questions I echo some of them such as:
Will it be more 'raw' than recent models and horsepower/price compared to M3. Scott, we appreciate your news, cheers. |

I too am curious about an E88 M1 aswell. Could it possibly have a fixed rollover bar option that way vert owners could track their cars every once in a while?

Can you address the rumors in Edmunds that the M1 will not happen but we will instead see a 135is variant? Can you provide a US time line for either?
Thanks!

See if the new coupe is the same year as M1 or a year after, the design of M1 will be instantly dated. I rather buy a M1 based on new coupe's chassis.

Will the design of the vehicle be similar to the current 135i shell, or will we get something like an LCI that would result in redesigned headlights or taillights? Similar to how the e90 has special headlamps in it's M variant.
Will it have BMW style performance seats? Will it be offered in manual as well as DCT? What is your guesstimate for the final weight? Sub 3200?

i think they will do a 135is until the e82 body is no more, the new body style will consist of an m1. as a new member this is my first time going through body style changes... watching a car take shape is like watching a child grow. we have seen the spy shots.. i have noticed BMW loves drama, and its understandable to get feedback, again we are the consumers... but again this isn't a soap either. i want to know whether to tune a little or wait for the m1, and the mere anticipation is only getting worse...
