2009-2011 128i's have a Vanos bolt issue that is no longer under unlimited extended warranty. Ask the previous owner if the Vanos bolts have been replaced otherwise it could lead to an expensive repair. If faulty the car will sound broken (like a diesel).
Can be easily checked when doing the valve cover / valve cover gasket. |

Helpful post, thanks. Currently looking for a manual 128i and its not easy to find one that isnt either very low mileage or very high mileage! Curious how far the average engine goes before needing work. I'm coming from M20/30/50s and know they can easily go 400k+.

Former E90 335i owner here - considering an E88.
Anything specific to the convertible top? I’m aware of the roof rubbing TSB, as it’s an ’09. It’s an N54 too, but that doesn’t scare me… |

Additional spark plug interval for PPC-equipped 135i
I realize this thread is ancient, but since it's sticky, I figured I'd chime in. I've read through most of the forum, but honestly it was a light skim read in the last few pages, so if this was mentioned, please forgive me.
My 135i has the BMW Performance Power Kit, and the recommended spark plug interval is 45,000 miles, not 80k like most 135s. It's right there on a sticker on the air intake.
