Wow, great point. Also the fact they did not have a CF roof rules them out as being true M cars!! |

As far as I knew.... these Test Mules are supposed to be highly secret.
Now we even get films, and close ups and so on ? Are these purposely made as teasers ? I have seen a few rolling around in Munich myself, but never seen footage like this.... Very cool anyway.... Sounds good |

I agree, this entire M1 process is very un-BMW-ish.

New direction of marketing for this generation? . Well, it is working like a charm.
And to all those who still thinks it's not a ///M before the lack of certain parts? The lack of parts can be easily added, but the things that are extra on the car - the wider tracks, the fender, the ducts and the LSD - you are not going to have iS with all these. Having said that, I am still not sure it's going to be called the M1 yet, but hope they do. Otherwise, M Coupe is okay, and the worst would be M135i. Or may be they will call it something like 1Mdrive4.5.

I would say that the front bodywork, the much wider fenders, and the LSD are very distinguising characteristics, don't you?

LOL that's crazy. I have driven nothing but MT's my entire life (Been driving for 27 years now) and I am even considering a DCT in my next... ->M1<-
It's the future, and DCT doesn't make you any less of a driver.

+1 My goal is to test drive a new BMW DCT just to see how bad and useless it its, then get fed up during the test drive and put it back into auto mode. Can you really do a 3 point turn in one? I'm sorry I could never switch from a manual.

I'll have to really test the DCT thoroughly before I decide. The temptation of changing gears too late may be detrimental to your health (or rear tires) - I guess you just need to get used to it?? You'll loose the clutch control though with the DCT.

2 pipes please! And as little of this carbon stuff as possible This car won't be right without a manual option. I'm very happy with my current steptronic (prefer the honesty of an old-fashioned slusher to all this whizz-bang VAG-style 600-clutch BS) but if the M1 is DCT only, I'm out... |

I hate to see this good thread go south to a DCT vs 6MT thread, however...... I have yet to see any automatic in an FI car be tolerable.
NA DCT, I can tolerate, blipping works well in C63, E9X, M6, M5 etc. but somehow downshifting in prep for a turn @ a track day, no boost, etc.. anti-lag anyone? glad I have my 6MT except when stuck in ATL traffic..... |

Bit late to the party, but here are my thoughts (and I've read most of the posts, but not ever single one)...
It's a manual, and he doesn't stall it at the beginning. It looks to me something like, the car was off, he pushed the clutch in w/out the hand brake on (that's why the car rolls backwards), changes gear to reverse (that's the clunk, and the car was driven forward in 1st gear, parked and turned off w/out the hand brake on, left in 1st gear), and then presses the start button. I think this is an M1 (or whatever it will be called) and NOT an iS because; A) there is no sunroof (at least that I can see) it may not be CF on this mule, but that's not the same roof on my car, and I doubt the iS will come with a sunroof-delete option; B) the wider track & wider fender front and rear - the iS isn't going to be offered with that option; C) the lower offset and wider wheels - again, no iS option for that. Can't wait for the final details! Very exciting!!!

Don't be fooled by the sound in the video, that's an M V8 not an inline 6. That sound is now wired into my brain (I have an e90 M3).
forget the obsession with quad exhaust, this thing is heavy enough...why add more weight with a bigger exhaust? |

^^ Not a chance on gods green earth this thing is getting a V8... Fuel efficiency is the top priority right now.. Even the M3s won't have V8's soon enough...
