Went to the Porsche dealer yesterday as my wife wants a Boxter... Porsches are crap inside, plus I will miss the torque of the BMW.
When I want to upgrade, I will have trouble finding a BMW I want. Unless they make an M1. An M3 is not for me, maybe when I'm a bit older? |

This is why BMW needs to make an M1, they need to bring the young M crowd back to BMW. |

Like I've been posting - the M1 makes no sense. Period. The Mustang GT 5.0 on the other hand is just what the doctor ordered. Actually, Black, no hood scoop, 6 speed, LSD, hardtop (no sunroof).

please tell me you didn't see this 135is coming.. its clear the 'is' variant is running a muck in the line up.. but that's OK. How can the 135 be 'the' M1 after such fan-fair over the original?
I don't think it will every see the light of day - unless they bring the true M1 back for some 25 year quick run limited production deal. Just my 1cent since I'm sorta new.. only 1.7 yrs driving a loving the BMW welt.

I'm not surprised at all if the M1 is not coming in this 1-Series generation. Actually, I was very much surprised when it was announced.
To me, the "new" BMW-way of pricing and optional equipment was going to force the MSRP of the M1 into the $52,000+ range, more expensive than the 335is and within a couple of thousands from an E90 M3. Even forgetting about the E90 M3 pricing, BMW just dropped a $51-$62,000 'is' bomb on the whole M Series once BMW announced the 335is and the Z4is pricing (and power levels), so everything changed for the M1 and even future M models pricing. Just 15-25hp over an 'is' model just does not cut it for me, and not for the price bracket that it would have been. A $45,000 135is sounds like a much more reasonable model in all areas than a M1 at this point in time. |

I definitely wouldn't pay an extra 10 grand over a base 135 for an 'is' version. For ten grand I would take my chances with the tuners. My 135 is already half way through it's warranty period anyway. I would pay ten grand more for an m version. But not for just a tuned 135 which I what an 'is' would be.

I hope so, I am not really in a big rush. If I get one it will be at a discount while I am deployed. Mine might si on the lot for a few months waiting for my return while the new body styles are being sold. I want to get the last one off the production line actually. I still wonder if I should just keep mine forever. It is still plenty fast and fun for my uses. Probably would be a better financial decision as well. We will see, I hope I can drive one before I order it. I am also hoping for some electronic goodies like adaptive suspension etc.

Can we close this whole sub-forum now?
I understand everyone's hopes for an uber-1, but BMW has been jerking people around since the 1s were released (Tii anyone?). Perhaps in fairness you can blame the world economy. The only way an M1 makes sense is if BMW makes room for it by pushing the M3 into a higher performance and cost bracket. At that point it comes down to dollars. How much MORE profit would BMW make selling M1s and M3s as opposed to leaving things as-is? Remember, it's not just M3 sales that could take a hit, but also 135i sales. Basically the market population for the 135i and M3 is not real big. These are low volume cars. If you add a third, tweener car to the mix, are you going to attract even more customers - enough to justify the investment? - or are you just going to eat your own? Since the bubble burst I doubt BMW is seeing thousands of extra customers looking to spend $50,000 or more on an M1 IN ADDITION to the current number of customers buying 135is, 335is and M3s.

everyone is arguing that the M1 makes no sense from a marketing perspective since it would be so closely priced to the 3 series, but you guys are forgetting the implied price increase that the 3 series would receive if an M1 was released.... I can def. see an M1, but not in this current economy... Perhaps it will be released with the new 1series chasis

can't believe i'm saying this, but in a way i'd be glad if bmw didn't actually make the m1. being 25 y/o, it's already a stretch for me to afford the 135, and the m1 would just be a carrot dangling way outta my reach
then again, that's like saying i don't like megan fox... fml if the m1 does actually end up coming out, i'm playing the lottery every day
