I think a super fast 135 with more aggressive looks and handling that is $20k or more cheaper than and M3 is awesome, whatever they call it. Plus, this means they have to further enhance the M3 if they still want to sell them. Everybody wins.

Anyone who thinks that this is anything but an M version of the 1 will be wrong I think. I find it hard to believe that BMW would bother to widen the fenders on the 1-series for a 135is, 135tii, supersport, or whatever else that isn't an M1.
Just because it doesn't have quad exhaust, hood bulge, or side gill right now doesn't mean anything. They could decide to go with the current exhaust setup or they can add the exhaust and cosmetic parts in later stages of testing and developmnt (see scott's post below). Quote:

twin turbo?
so is it a twin turbo setup as in N54 or a twin scroll turbo setup as in 2010 N55 335i?
Well, if they are using the same twin scroll turbo as this years 335i would mean that there is hope for the N55 335i (which I just ordered) after all. If the the twin scroll has been upgraded to something more powerfull - well, maybe it will be possible to bolt it on to any N55, hehe bottom line: Im confused which one they will use for the M1/1M |

I see..
as many people here, I'm still not sure about the twin scroll turbo setup and hope there will be ways of improving the HP output. It would say a lot about its potential if the N55 engine on the M1 used a twin scroll turbo as well .
What I also liked was this: 'What you have seen so far with BMW performance is nothing compared to what will be coming in the future. ' |

Scott has said that the M 1er will be powered by a TT or BiTurbo version of the N55. I can remember which.

Nice :-D. I may be around ready for a replacement (or at least a DD to supplement) my Z4MC when this thing comes around.
Talk about overdue!

360 is probably a safe bet. Right smack between stock and an M3. Given it's lighter than an M3, they probably won't go much higher than that. Even that puts it VERY close to the Power/weight of an E92 M3 coupe.

I dont know how many of these they will sell given the european version is 10,000 euros more. You could get a lsd, m3 suspension, and the wider fenders, wheels, and brakes for much less and they would likley be better quality. Oh and a more powerful tune.

I honestly am not too worried about the power output, but more on the weight of the car. Making the car more powerful is relatively easy to do, but lightening it much more than it already is, is quite hard(my main complaint with my 135i is that it is so porky), hope the M1 can be more track oriented of an M car, leaving the M3 to be the more civil bigger brother

The car is on such a different level than my 135....again I will say it--different purpose and that's what I hope the M1 does as well...I mean, I have had at least 10 different people come up to me and talk to me about the car, tell me it sounds great or looks awesome or whatever....I think even a non-BMW fan can see and hear the difference generated by the ///M line... What a fantastic car.....

On second thought I'm not so excited about the M1 anymore. But some of the things they are doing such as the brake ducts should have been standard on the M3. Either way I can't wait to see what the final version looks like.

Just curious--why aren't you excited now? Were you hoping for more cosmetic changes or other performance differences? I really wanted an M3 when I got the 135, but they were sooooo damn expensive I just couldn't swing it....that's another reason the M1 might be just about perfect....

I dont see any sunroof, but can't tell if this mule has a CF roof. Any thoughts?
Front quarter panel is a different color and may be a different material (thermoplastic?). That sure looks like an M differential which would rule out a 135is (which Scott has already confirmed anyway). Now we will have to anxiously await more details on the powertrain, although I think the 360 hp number is probably correct in order to keep the power to weight ratio slightly below the current M3. |

Oh wow, it really looks excellent with the wider fenders. Love the new M3 competition wheels as well. Looks like lots of room for rubber. I'll take one, but please let's get this thing under 3300 lbs I hope they end up closer to 3000 lbs

That it is. I find it hilarious that people keep calling it the IS model even after SCOTT26 confirmed it was the M test mule.
