claybars remove contaminents from the top of clearcoat and smooths out the surface of it. it will not be good at getting stuff embedded in clearcoat. if normal wheel cleaner won't do much, i doubt a claybar will.

orrr as an alternative product, something that will remove baked on brake dust from my wheels. obtained locally of course.

I use this stuff from Canadian Tire called Orange Blast All-Wheel Cleaner, it works like a charm for me.
