My two cents....it is a test mule for an x-drive platform. The e90 sedan already wears the same N54 engine and is available in x-drive.
Look at the front fender gap on the spy pics.....it looks like it sits higher than a normal 135 supporting the notion of x-drive. If it were something like an ///M supersport you can bet it would be disguised much better than that. |

if it is an X model... why does it have big wheels with as it looks semislicks, a carbon roof, big fenders and drilled brakes disk in the back. That really doesnot make sense!

Maybe it's just some home made tuner thing, because; why would BMW AG mount M3 CSL reps to some future M1/Supersport, considering the fact that there are no serienumbers located around the centercap...?

This is interesting, if they come out with a M1 I may just get back into another 1 unless its the same N54 engine. Another inconsistency worth noting is why introduce the M model so late in the model cycle. The new 1 series will be out in Europe in a year. Although 1 coupe was just introduced 2 years ago I can't see them continue to sell the coupe for another 4-5 years. Last edited by Robert; 10-13-2009 at 01:26 PM.. |

-the way the carbon fiber roof ends -the number on the fender flares -the brakes If this was somebody's super tuner, chances are that wouldn't be a true CF roof, it would be yinyl and it would extend all the way to the glass. The number on the fender flares also doesn't make sense nor do the brakes. The whole thing feels like an OEM project. If this is the much rumored 1er Supersport... bye bye 335i

Trust me on this one guys: This is a performance variant of the 1 series. In all likeliness it wont be called an //M. That's good b/c it would need an //M price tag. BMW's online marketing machine has been very tight lipped about this but released the following statement on GCZ in regards to this pic:
"More like warming up for the Grand Finale." "The BMW 1er -BMW performance Concept is something similar to the BMW M3 CSL - more advantage of lightweight materials and specific options aimed at the enthusiast. But not offered within the BMW Performance catalog. Although there will be a similar option for the M3 Coupe including Matt finishes as Glacier Silver , Frozen Grey ,Matt Black and Clay White. But do not think of them as CSL's." Those saying otherwise will be proven wrong. I hope it comes to the states. PLEASE PLEASE.

Those rims look to me as a new OEM interpretation of the CSL wheels, not reps...

If they do come out with a M version of the 1, I will first in line.

This is why I think it's not actually a car that's going to be produced. It's just too late in the model cycle for it to make sense, unless they're just planning on carrying it over into the next one (I think they did this with the M3 when the previous generation 3 Series was introduced?) for a couple of years. Time will tell I guess, but I'm sceptical that we're actually looking an an M1 (or whatever it's going to be called). |
