I have driven nothing but a MT all my life, but the M1 might deserve a DCT

No way, Jose. I won't make that mistake again... I tried to rationalize the purchase of my last Audi with DSG by saying I'm a little "older" now and that it's "technologically superior" or can shift "faster" than me. In the end I decided it was just "boring" and I'd urge you to really take pause if you enjoy rowing your own.

Prior to purchasing my 6MT... i tried to rationalize all of what you had said so that i can purchase a car that was on the lot instead of waiting for a custom built car.... next thing ya know, my gf bought an auto 1er and after driving that... im sure glad my rationalizing failed |

I really did. Flicking the paddles can only excite you for so long, you're still not really in control compared to a manual gearbox. I guess it depends how much commuting in heavy traffic you do though, and if this will be your daily driver.
Maybe borrow or rent an Audi with DSG for a weekend and see if you're over it by Sunday night.

It is funny that everyone's talking about the transmission because I have been thinking which one to get.
I would have more fun with the manual, but the DCT would be faster! I was rationalising that I am going to get the DCT, and may be save up for a Manual Cayman.

It is so. You have either to chose between FUN or PERFORMANCE.
PERFORMANCE: Porsche 911 Turbo S, BMW M3 GTS, Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren MP4-12C, Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA FUN: Porsche 911 GT3/RS, Porsche Boxter Spyder, BMW 130i, Z4 M Coupé, Lotus Elise/Exige. The M3 is more a GT and has not much tuning potential. But the M1 can easily be tuned (well I hope so) and even with 6MT the M1 can be faster than the M3 DKG, on straight line because of more power, and around the track because it has M3 drive-train, and it is lighter. So this is what I would chose: M1 E82: 6MT M3 E92: 7DCT |
