hill assist won't disengage?

Hi guys,

I have a 128 6MT. It seems like the rear-right wheel's brakes are "stuck" on.

I think it's happening once hill assist is engaged. I've played around/tested it and am 90% sure it's hill assist. My wheel is on fire by the time I get home since it's been "active" during that ride.

Restarting the car seems to release it (tried it at a stop light lol).

Anybody come across this problem? Are my rotors/calipers rusty? Do I need to WD40 the pistons?

Thanks!

Bman

If you can't DIY it, you'll want to find a shop you really trust and take it in. Probably a caliper is stuck, the sliders aren't working and it's not releasing. Could be parking brake related too.

It'll be the wheel off and then start seeing what's up. Pads out, caliper unbolted, see what's stuck. Rotor off next and more of the same for the mechanism inside.

There's a chance it's the hill assist, so that's a good note. I can't actually say how that system works. I'd still think the issue was directly with the brake mechanism itself but can't be certain. It's probably engaging the brakes, and then they aren't physically releasing when allowed. Otherwise it'd probably be affecting both sides.

These cars don't get younger. If you're in Toronto and see salt on your roads in winter, well, you know...

Never heard that issue before. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to know what the issue is.

If all else fails, you can code hill assist out via Bimmergeeks Protool or another coding tool of your choosing.

If it's only happening on one brake, that makes me lean towards a mechanical problem, like maybe a sticking caliper. I'd start there - inspect the caliper and see if the piston moves freely in its bore.
