Transportation
Gents! I'm going to be transporting my 135i from the east coast to the west coast. Can anyone here recommend a good transportation company?
Thx!

pick up a copy of "Hemmings" to find good shipping companies. Places like Reliable or Horseless Carriages.
PS: Make sure that your car will be shipped in an ENCLOSED trailer and not sand blasted by rocks and stones, etc kicked up by the tractor trailer's wheels.

driving it would be great if you have the time.. I have a friend who works for a car shipping company that specializes in high value cars (I can't remember the name) but they chage an arm and a leg and still want your firstborn to transport cross country.

I towed my 1er on an open car hauler behind my 4Runner from CA to NC, and din't notice any new rock chips (I looked). I just couldn't justify the exorbitant expense of enclosed shipping unless I was moving a show car or something. OP, you might also see if they'll let you put a car cover on a car on an open trailer. Would probably need to be secured with a cable or something (BMW sells the covers and the cables).

I just did a transport from NY to CA 6 months ago, and I drove the car from CA to NY 1.5 years back.. lol what a move huh
Best bet is to set up a bid on www.uship .com and have various companies bid for your transport. Check the companies' reviews before making the final decision.

I would only ship in a enclosed trailer. You will not believe on how much dirt and damage to your car will occur via open trailer method. Looks like Intercity lines is good. You will probably only pay a few hundred more for an enclosed trailer vs open. Plus IF you go open your gonna need to detail and buff out any scratches afterwards. Much better to go enclosed.
I remember a guy with a BSM 1M who shipped his car in the winter months via open trailer. They put the car above the trucks rear tires... by the time his car go to the "other coast" his car was sand blasted everywhere. Only ship enclosed. Here is another thread... I shipped my wife's 1-series from TX to NC via open carrier for $800. Car arrived a little dusty, but no damage/issues whatsoever. I used North American Vehicle Transport (N.A.V.T). Their offices are in Plano, TX.
