6FL Help Please
Hi everyone,
I paid a visit to a local junkyard a few days ago and found a few possible source cars that has 6FL option. I have spent last couple of days on research on the parts and codings I would need for 6FL as the final confirmation before I spend the money(not cheap... ). I just want to be sure. Hope knowledgeable fellow members here can help. My car: US spec 2008 e92 (production date 2007/10), NON-Idrive Professional HU with L7 and bluetooth. There is only TCU in the truck. Through research I know what I need is a MULF2 HIGH to replace the TCU. Now question(hardware part): Do I need the USB HUB? I've come across different answers. Some say it's not necessary. If I do, is there a separate cable that runs from usb hub to the jack in the armrest? I know there's a cable between MULF and the hub. Coding part ( I have Ncxpert working and have done some codings successfully) Again I've seen different answers. Common ones are to add $6nn $6FL +KMP3 and +IPOD to VO. So what exactly do I need to add based on what I have? And beside adding values to VO, is there anything that needs to be coded to certain modules? If yes, what are they and to what module?: By the way, by today, is 6FL still the best way to have USB capability? I know there's things like Dension, Mobridge. Is 6FL still worth the hassle?(cheaper than those aforementioned options though) Is there any difference in audio quality between them? Thanks for reading! Any input will be greatly appreciated! Sorry for kind of double posting it in coding section, because I thought my question is also coding related. |

you need to add 6fl and code headunit and mulf
you do not need to remove tcu, mulf2high can complement tcu, then bluetooth function stay on TCU and 6fl on MULF2HGH MULF2HIGH in this configuration can provide limited voice command feature (620 option) you need white/blue plug with power and aux and usb cable with usb socket if you taking parts on junkyard it is easier to get whole USB harness usb cable from mulf to usb hub , usb hub in white box, usb cable from hub to usb socket, usb hub power cable, usb socket, aux cable from aux/usb socket to mulf2high fiber optic (MOST) cable from mulf2high to MOST concentrator under rear seat

Hardware wise. From what you said, bottom line is I do need the usb hub. I guess I can figure out better the things I need once I get to stripping the parts off the source car. Is there any benefit other than voice command feature by keeping the TCU? Is a separate harness and wire required to power the MULF? My original idea was to use the cable from TCU. Correct me if I got the whole concept wrong. Will you be able to elaborate in details on the coding part? Like exactly what values need to be added or changed to what module when you said the HU and MULF needed to be coded? Thanks again for your patience and time! |

in a such configuration tcu provides bluetooth and bmw assist(sos) function
mulf2high provides usb audio and voice command function if you keep tcu in car you simply add 6fl and code HU and MULF and maybe TCU

Sorry but I'm a little lost. When you said code the HU or MULF, what value needs to be coded or changed?

you do not need to change any value in ECU if your add all factory wiring. you should add 6FL to FA and code HU , MULF and maybe TCU using this FA.

![]() By the way, Can I ask you one more question if you don't mind. How would you recommend between a 6FL retrofit(adding MULF high) and just replace the HU with 6fl built-in? I know those are basically the two factory routes to have USB functionality. Cost aside, which one is better in your opinion? |

What kind of Harness do you need for
What kind of Harness do you need for TCU and Mulf2 high both installed
at the same time? Since the TCU already takes care of bluetooth and the Mulf2 high has bluetooth function is there some kind of conflict between the two and how is it avoided? |

it is avoided by option (FA) coding
coding software see MULF specific FA option and TCU specific FA option and set module internal options in a right order mulf2 requires following signals 12V+ Ground+ MOST bus tx and rx other connections are 6FL specific - (AUX and USB) it is possible to use cd changer preparation cable for power and MOST for MULF you can check via VIN if you have one

So you would only need power, most and coding
So you would only need power, most and coding for 6fl
to enable the the usb port on a mulf 2 high module and wire in the usb. If you are only interested in usb music you probably could go direct to the usb port on the Mulf and avoid the Hub. Is this correct? I noticed my 2urad file has a line for usb even though its a 06 currently sent to nicht activ. |
