Tested base audio and logic 7
Finally, I went to dealer and tested base and logic 7.
First of all, I was surprised that base audio is not bad at all. It's almost a same quality as my bose system. Maybe even better Logic 7, It was a noticable difference, but not much...I mean not for extra $1200.... So, most likely, I'll skip a logic 7........... |

Great Johnny, see now you just saved yourself a bunch of money ! Logic7 is good, but if the base audio sounds good enough to you, then no need to spend the extra money right?

I thought the base audio was pretty rubbish (haven't heard the logic 7) compared to my skyline's factory speakers, there's hardly any noticeable difference except one is over 20 years old.

In E9x (check the audio subforum's stickies), most years also had the HiFi standard; however, the 2010 and early 2011 had the (true) "base" audio, which is crap. Since you're buying a 2006 325i, you'll get at least the "HiFi" audio. |

Don't understand why people want to time travel like this
for any apparent reason. To hash over someones subjective rationalization of audio quality. |

I have Logic 7; with the Harmon Kardon system.
If you turn the 'L7' on in the settings, the sound begins to suck hairy, steaming, glow-in-the-dark, flying moosecock. I mean really. It's simply awful. And I'm not a snob or anything, I'm just allergic to the artifacts from all the directional fakery. They really do suck. |

There are all kinds of adjustments for it . Most of the stereophiles turn the processing off. It has a few canned settings with processing and graphic eq if you read the manual and dig through the menu's Last edited by ctuna; 04-29-2017 at 09:40 PM.. |

The option to turn off the L7 (fake surround/ directional inference) is in iDrive... At least it is in my 2011 E91. Yes, I've been through all the various options, and I turned most of them off. A little added bass and treble is fine, but most of the rest just makes things sound 'worse'. I do a lot of directional audio processing as part of my job, and have done for over 35 years. I've been using Soundfield microphones for about 13 years now, and L7 seems to use 'directional inference' in a similar way that things like 'Harpex' (www.Harpex.net) does... only Harpex is only EVER used on acoustic signals which have genuine directional information contained in the signals... So called "pan-pot stereo" (which is how most pop music is created) doesn't have the same level of directional information, so any 'surround decoding' software has to use a lot of "guesswork" and "fakery" to produce a "mock surround". Since I still have to listen to music and spoken word product that I and my colleagues work on, having a system that decides it can "make it prettier" by analyzing the content and then making changes to directional information... that's not something I want to have. That said, I've listened to it with an open mind, in case the artifice was something which was somehow perhaps nice for "wallpaper" background audio. Even though, I have to say, it really does sound very poor indeed. I would say that the system sounds very nice for a manufacturer stock system. Logic Seven should be turned OFF, unless you want that system to start making things sound worse. |

I have to say that I disagree with this. The medium that you play your music through determines if the L7 system can effectively operate. I find that if using a lossless source (CD, USB drive, iPhone direct) and good audio files (ACC/WAV), the L7's sound-stage has good depth and does not drop any frequencies. You can't play MP3s on it and expect to be blown away.

See page 7 for pro radio adjustments. Oh yeah the Hi Fi system pretty much stinks no bass highly distorted harsh highs and it falls apart if you turn it up. (That is the base system on the 330 in 06 in the US) Last edited by ctuna; 04-29-2017 at 10:11 PM.. |
