Sounds like a good way to head for number three. Talk about comfort access.

Hi,
This is my first time buying a BMW and I have a lot of questions! Please help me out! I haven't been able to find a good dealer so far! 1) Does the comfort access system comes with the dynamic package only or can we add to the sports package? I am planning to get a sports package. 2) Is the alarm system necessary? The dealer I talked to said that having the comfort access system was sufficient b/c there's no way to get into the car unless they have your key. Any responses will be appreciated! |

As for the alarm, it's really a separate issue than CA anyway. Even without CA, theoretically there's no way to get into the car without the key. Of course, bad guys rarely listen to theory. Again, it's a totally separate option. I personally don't have the alarm installed. |

Someone mentioned in another thread that, that is changing (may have already for '09). The alarm is no longer going to be pre-wired.

So if you don't have CA, do you still have the push button start/stop and have to insert the fob into the hole? I'm in the first phase of picking up an E90 and cannot figure out the dif...thanks!

Yes, you still have the push button start. You just have to stick the key fob in the slot on the dash before you press the start/stop button.
With CA, you don't need to stick the fob into the dash. It just simply has to be somewhere inside the cabin (eg in your pocket, purse, bag, etc, etc.).

Is it possible to have this "key fob", but NOT have comfort access? Because I have this key, but never tried to start the car without inserting the key in the slot and pressing 'start' |

the comfort access key and the non-comfort access keys look very similar, except for a battery panel on the back of the comfort access key. You will have to stick the key in the ignition to start the car. There is a way to use the car without the key, but it's a 4 step process, where you start the car, stop the car, pull the key out and then start the car again shortly after pulling the key out of the slot.

4 years ago I see someone said that they THOUGHT you could not add CA to a non CA car... Is this still the case?
Anyone know if you can add comfort access to a car that does not have it? |

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that, but this thread is almost 10 years old. You'd really be better off posting a new one specific to your question.

very possible that the remote battery has either died or is on its way out. When my fob battery was low i had no comfort access. after i replaced the battery, boom, regained all my comfort access.

Thank you, that was the first thing that I did. replace battery in each fob. No comfort access features work. It's like I never had the CA option.

Selling a pair of E9X Comfort Access (Passive Go) Door Handles, CA Module and 4 CA Antennas. $250 plus shipping.
Would otherwise keep and install, but I'm not sure how to retrofit our 2013 335i Convertible (E93). Welcome advice if anyone can walk me through the install.
